Occupational Accident Insurance for professionals

Edited

All Qwick professionals are covered by Occupational Accident Insurance on the Qwick platform.

What is Occupational Accident Insurance?

Occupational Accident Insurance, or OAI, is an alternative solution to Workers' Compensation. Workers' Compensation is for W-2 employees only and does not apply to 1099 Independent Contractors coming in to pick up a shift. Occupational Accident Insurance is a private insurance policy that specifically focuses on accidental injuries or death that occurs while an employee is working. OAI generally covers medical expenses that result from an accident, including hospital bills, surgeries, medications, and other related costs. However, OAI does not typically provide coverage for lost wages or disability payments, which are often covered by workers’ comp.

The cost of the coverage for each shift ($0.38/hour) is withheld from the professional's payment and paid on their behalf. OAI is required for all professionals on all shifts on Qwick, with no exceptions.

OAI does not cover: Drivers, gas-powered machinery (backpack blowers or lawn equipment), heavy machinery (forklifts), automated machinery (bottlers), ladders, or security shifts where touching another person or their belongings is required. ID and ticket scanning is allowed.

For even more information, see our recent blog post here. If you have any questions about the OAI policy and its coverage, please contact Qwick support, and we will be glad to assist you.

What do I do if a professional is injured while working a shift at my business?

Immediately get the professional the appropriate care they need, such as first aid or an ambulance. Then, please advise the professional to reach out to Qwick support to get the claims process started, or provide them with the information in this article, which will connect them with the appropriate OAI team to handle the claim.
