Working Shifts with Qwick

Edited

Once you've confirmed a shift, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know before, during, and after your shift—including preparing for work, canceling if needed, clocking in and out, and getting paid.

Before Your Shift

Prepare for a Successful Shift

Once you've confirmed a shift, take a few minutes to review all of the shift details.

Be sure to check:

  • Arrival time

  • Dress code or attire requirements

  • Required tools or equipment (such as knives or a wine key)

  • Parking and check-in instructions

  • Manager on Duty information

  • Any attachments provided by the business (menus, recipes, maps, parking guides, etc.)

Best Practice: Add the shift to your calendar as soon as you confirm it so you don't miss your commitment.

Check Your Messages

Businesses and Qwick Support may send important updates through in-app messaging before your shift.

You can also message the business if you have questions about:

  • Parking

  • Arrival instructions

  • Shift expectations

  • Check-in location

To access messages:

  1. Tap the speech bubble icon in the top-right corner of the app, or

  2. Open your Schedule and select the shift.

  3. Tap Messages.

Important: In-app messaging cannot be used to cancel a shift. To avoid penalties, you must cancel through the app.

Canceling a Confirmed Shift

How do I cancel a shift?

If you're unable to work a confirmed shift, cancel it in the app as soon as possible so another Professional can be matched.

Do not call or message the business to cancel.

To cancel:

  1. Open your Schedule.

  2. Select the shift.

  3. Scroll to the bottom.

  4. Tap Cancel this shift.

  5. Confirm your cancellation.

Will I receive a penalty for canceling?

Possibly.

Cancelling within 24 hours of the scheduled start time may result in a penalty unless your cancellation qualifies as an approved emergency.

Penalties may affect:

  • Your completion rate

  • Your Professional rating

  • Your ability to confirm future shifts

  • Your Qwick account status

Cancellation and No-Show Policy

Situation

Result

First confirmed shift is a No-Show

Permanent suspension

First late cancellation (within 24 hours) or No-Show after previously completing shifts

5-day suspension from accepting or confirming new shifts

Second unexcused late cancellation or No-Show

14-day suspension

Third unexcused late cancellation or No-Show

Permanent suspension

During temporary suspensions:

  • Previously confirmed shifts remain scheduled.

  • You are still expected to work those shifts unless otherwise notified.

  • You cannot accept or confirm new shifts until the suspension ends.

  • Businesses cannot send you new shift offers while your account is suspended.

  • Important: If you work a shift that you were not confirmed for while your account is suspended, the business will not be able to submit payment for that shift because your account is not eligible to work new shifts during the suspension period.

Permanent suspensions result in all upcoming confirmed shifts being removed.

Emergency Cancellations

If you experience a legitimate emergency, cancel your shift in the app first and then contact Qwick Support as soon as possible.

Supporting documentation is required before penalties can be reviewed.

Examples include:

Emergency

Documentation

Vehicle breakdown

Mechanic or AAA documentation

Car accident

Police report or towing documentation

Illness or injury

Watermarked doctor's note or positive test result

Death or serious illness of an immediate family member

Funeral program, obituary, or doctor's documentation

Each situation is reviewed individually.

If documentation is approved, Qwick will attempt to restore any cancelled shifts when possible, although placement cannot be guaranteed.

During Your Shift

Arrive Early

Plan extra time for:

  • Traffic

  • Parking

  • Finding your check-in location

Late arrivals may affect your ability to work the shift.

Check In With the Manager

Locate the Manager on Duty listed in your shift details and check in before beginning work.

Clock In

When you're ready to begin working:

  1. Open the Qwick app.

  2. Verify you're at the shift location.

  3. Enable location services.

  4. Obtain permission from the manager before clocking in.

  5. Enter the 4-digit clock-in code if prompted.

If the business verifies that you started working later than your clock-in time, your timecard may be adjusted.

During the Shift

To help ensure a successful experience:

  • Follow the business's instructions.

  • Limit personal phone use while working.

  • Complete all assigned responsibilities professionally.

Clock Out

When your shift has ended:

  1. Receive permission from the manager to leave.

  2. Clock out before leaving the worksite.

Clocking out after leaving the location may require additional verification and could delay payment.

If your shift runs longer than expected, notify Qwick within 15 minutes of your scheduled clock-out time and request a shift extension in the app.

After Your Shift

Rate Your Experience

After clocking out, you'll be asked to rate the business from 1–5 stars and may leave optional feedback.

Your ratings remain private and do not affect your eligibility to work with that business again.

If you need to:

  • Correct your timecard

  • Report a workplace issue

  • Ask about payment

Text Qwick Support at 79425.

Please do not contact the business directly regarding payment concerns.

Getting Paid

How are payments processed?

Qwick processes 1099 and W-2 payments separately.

  • 1099 shifts are paid through Stripe.

  • W-2 shifts are paid through Qwick Payroll.

1099 Payments

Instant Pay

If you're eligible, you'll be able to choose Instant Pay after clocking out.

Once your hours have been verified, payment may arrive in as little as 30 minutes.

Please note:

  • Time verification may take up to 48 hours.

  • Instant Pay includes a 3% processing fee.

Standard Pay

If you choose Standard Pay—or are not eligible for Instant Pay—Stripe will transfer your available earnings based on your personal payout schedule.

Transfers generally occur within 7 days, although your bank may require an additional 1–2 business days to post the funds.

Automatic Payments

Some shifts qualify for automatic payment immediately after clocking out.

Generally, this occurs when:

  • You clock in within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time.

  • You clock out within 30 minutes of the scheduled end time.

  • Your location confirms you were at the shift site.

Businesses may still adjust hours or add tips after payment has been released.

If hours are reduced after payment has already been issued, a negative adjustment may appear on your account and will be applied against future earnings.

Time Verification

If your location, clock-in, or clock-out doesn't qualify for automatic payment, the business has up to 48 hours after the shift ends to verify your hours and release payment.

W-2 Payroll

When do W-2 Professionals get paid?

W-2 payroll follows a Monday through Monday workweek.

To be included in that payroll cycle, your shift must be clocked out before 7:59 AM UTC on Monday.

All eligible hours worked during that payroll week are processed and paid the following Wednesday.

If you receive your pay by direct deposit, funds are typically deposited on Wednesday. If you receive paper checks, they are mailed on Wednesday.

Note: Payroll timing may be delayed if there is an observed bank holiday.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cancel by messaging the business?

No. You must cancel using the Cancel this shift button in the app.

Can I clock out after leaving the worksite?

No. Always clock out before leaving whenever possible. Off-site clock-outs may require additional verification and could delay payment.

Why hasn't my payment arrived yet?

Possible reasons include:

  • The business is still verifying your hours.

  • Your shift required manual review.

  • Your payment is following the Standard Pay schedule.

  • Your W-2 payroll is processing according to the weekly payroll schedule.

  • A bank holiday has delayed processing.

If your payment appears delayed beyond the expected timeframe, contact Qwick Support by texting 79425.
