Troubleshooting Form I-9 Errors

Edited

If you’re having trouble completing your Form I-9 in the Qwick app, use this guide to review common errors and find the next steps.

Before You Begin

Before trying again, please make sure:

  • You have a stable internet connection.

  • You’re using the latest version of the Qwick app.

  • You’ve fully closed and reopened the app.

  • The photos of your documents are clear and show the entire document.

“Social Security Number Does Not Match Personal Information”

This error usually means the Social Security Number entered for your I-9 document does not match the Social Security Number saved in your personal information.

How to fix it

  1. Confirm that the Social Security Number entered as the document number exactly matches the number printed on your Social Security card.

  2. Correct any errors and try submitting your I-9 again.

  3. If the number is correct but you still receive the error, contact Qwick Support.

If you’re still having trouble, Qwick Support can send a secure personalized link to the email address on file so you can review or update your information.

After completing the update, return to the app and try submitting your I-9 again. If the error continues, please send Support a screenshot or screen recording of the message you receive.

Important

The “Social Security Number Does Not Match Personal Information” error is different from the “SSN in Use” error.

If you receive an “SSN in Use” message, contact Qwick Support for assistance.

SSA Tentative Non-Confirmation

If your I-9 shows an SSA Tentative Non-Confirmation, sometimes called a TNC, contact Qwick Support.

This status requires additional review and usually cannot be resolved by repeatedly submitting the form.

“Unacceptable Document” Error

You may receive an “Unacceptable Document” error when:

  • The document is not accepted for Form I-9 verification.

  • The document was uploaded under the wrong document type.

  • A restricted Social Security card was submitted as a List C document.

  • The document photos are unclear or incomplete.

Before trying again, confirm that you selected the document type that exactly matches the document you’re uploading.

Which Documents Can I Use?

You can complete Form I-9 using either:

  • One document from List A, or

  • One document from List B and one document from List C.

You can view the full list of accepted Form I-9 documents here:

https://go.qwick.com/i9-documents

Restricted Social Security Cards

A Social Security card cannot be used as a List C document if it includes the statement:

“VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION”

If your card contains this restriction, you’ll need to use a different accepted document or document combination.

For example, you may be able to use an eligible List A document, such as:

  • An Employment Authorization Document, also known as a work permit or Form I-766

  • A Permanent Resident Card, also known as Form I-551

How to Replace an Uploaded Document

If you need to replace a document you already uploaded:

  1. Open the ID Documents section.

  2. Select Continue.

  3. Tap the pencil icon next to the document you want to replace.

  4. Select Government Photo ID.

  5. Select Continue.

  6. Choose the country that issued your document.

  7. Select the document type that matches the document you’re uploading.

  8. Upload clear photos of the front and back of the document.

  9. Try submitting your I-9 again.

When uploading an Employment Authorization Document, select Work Permit.

When uploading a Permanent Resident Card, select Permanent Resident Card.
