Raise your hand for open shifts

Edited

Learn how the new Open Shifts feature works, including how to express interest in shifts that may not be fully posted or available to apply for yet. You'll find information about what happens after you raise your hand for a shift, how your interest helps with matching, when you may receive notifications, and how the application process works once a shift becomes available

How it works in 5 steps

1

Browse pre-release shifts

Open your Home screen and look for “Interested in any of these?”

2

Tap the ones that catch your eye

Multi-select — flag as many as you want. The action bar lights up as you go.

3

Confirm your interest

Review your picks in the confirmation sheet, then tap Confirm interest.

4

Watch and wait

Your section flips to “Shifts you’re watching.” Qwick keeps tabs from there.

5

Apply the moment it posts

You get a push notification + text when a watched shift goes live.

The basics

What does “raise your hand” for a shift mean?

It’s a way to tell Qwick which shifts you’re interested in before they officially post. You’re not applying yet — you’re flagging interest so we know to look out for you when those shifts open up.

How is this different from applying for a shift?

Applying happens after a shift is posted and locks you in as a candidate the business can pick from. Raising your hand happens earlier — the shift hasn’t posted yet. It signals interest, gets you a text the moment the shift posts, and gives you a head start when it does.

Where do I find shifts I can raise my hand for?

On your Home screen under the section “Interested in any of these?” — just above your upcoming shifts. Tap any card that catches your eye, then tap Confirm interest.

Why are these shifts showing up if they haven’t posted yet?

Businesses share their upcoming staffing needs with Qwick ahead of time. We surface those to you so you can shape your schedule earlier and get notified the moment they go live.

How it works

How many shifts can I raise my hand for at once?

You can flag as many as you want in a single go. Tap each one that interests you, then submit them all at once with Confirm interest. The confirmation sheet will summarize everything you’ve selected before you finalize.

What happens right after I tap “Confirm interest”?

You’ll see a quick “You’re all set” confirmation, and the section on your Home screen flips from “Interested in any of these?” to “Shifts you’re watching.” That’s your watch list — the shifts Qwick is keeping an eye on for you.

Does raising my hand guarantee I’ll get the shift?

No. It’s an interest signal, not a booking. When the shift posts, you’ll still need to apply, and the business still chooses who to book. But you’ll get a faster heads-up and a stronger position in the matching engine.

Will I still need to apply once the shift posts?

Yes. Once a shift you’re watching goes live, you’ll get a notification with a quick path to apply. The actual application step is the same as any other shift on Qwick.

Notifications & next steps

How will I know if a shift I’m watching posts?

You’ll get a push notification and a text message the moment it goes live. Tap the notification to jump straight to the shift and apply.

What does the notification say?

Something like “A shift you raised your hand for just posted — tap to apply.” It will include the venue, role, date, and time so you know exactly which one it is.

What if I miss the notification?

The shift will also appear in your normal shift feed once it posts. You can apply from there. That said, raising your hand gives you the earliest signal possible, so you’ll usually have a head start over Pros who didn’t.

Can I turn off the texts and rely only on push notifications (or vice versa)?

Notification preferences live in your Qwick app settings. Push and SMS can be managed there. If you want both channels to fire on watched shifts, leave both on.

Matching & visibility

Will raising my hand affect my matching?

Yes — in a good way. Your interest feeds the matching engine so we prioritize you for those shifts and for similar ones in the future. It’s one of the strongest signals you can send us about what you actually want to work.

Does the business see that I raised my hand?

Once you apply after the shift posts, you’ll show up to the business under an Applicants tab on their shift detail page. They’ll see standard applicant info — not a list of every shift you’ve ever expressed interest in.

Will the business see how many other Pros raised their hand for the same shift?

On their side, the business sees a count of Pros who applied after the shift posted. They don’t see a leaderboard of pre-release hands, so don’t worry about “competing” before the shift is even live.

Can I raise my hand for shifts outside my approved roles or markets?

You’ll only see pre-release shifts that match the roles and markets you’re approved for. If you want a wider pool of options, the best move is to expand your approved roles or markets in your profile.

Managing your hands

What if I change my mind — can I lower my hand?

Yes. Open the “Shifts you’re watching” section on Home, tap the shift, and remove your interest. It won’t affect your standing with Qwick, and you won’t be notified about that shift anymore.

Can I see everything I’m currently watching?

Yes. Your watched shifts live in the “Shifts you’re watching” section on your Home screen, with subtitle “We’ll text you the moment any of these post.” Tap “See all” to view the full list.

What happens if the shift never posts?

If a business decides not to post the shift, your hand naturally goes away when the shift falls off the watch list. We won’t spam you about it — you’ll just stop seeing it.

What if the shift gets edited before it posts — different time, different pay?

If the details change in a way that still matches your profile, you’ll still get notified when it posts so you can decide whether to apply. If the change pushes it outside your roles or markets, it’ll drop off your watch list.

Miscellaneous and troubleshooting

What if I’m already booked for another shift at the same time when one I’m watching posts?

You’ll still get notified, but Qwick won’t let you double-book yourself. You can choose to keep your existing booking or, if cancellation is still allowed, decide which one you want. When in doubt, check the cancellation policy before making a change.

Does raising my hand cost me anything or count against any limits?

No. It’s free, and there’s no cap on how many shifts you can express interest in. It also doesn’t affect your reliability, cancellation rate, or any performance metrics.

I didn’t get a text when “my” shift posted — what went wrong?

A few common causes: SMS notifications are off in your settings, your phone number on file is outdated, the shift never actually posted, or it posted with edits that pushed it outside your eligible roles or markets. Check your settings first, then reach out to Pro Support if it still looks off.

Can I raise my hand from a desktop, or only inside the app?

Raising your hand is part of the Qwick for Pros app experience. That’s where pre-release shifts surface and where you’ll get the fastest notifications when they post.

Where do I go if I have more questions?

Reach out to Pro Support through the Help section of the Qwick for Pros app. We’re happy to walk through anything that’s confusing.

One more thing

Raising your hand is one of the strongest signals you can send Qwick about the kind of work you want. The more you use it, the better your matches get. Tap a shift today and try it out.
